Description
Created as a medicine over 500 years ago by the Chartreuse monks in Vauvert, a small suberb of Paris, Green Chartreuse is the only green liqueur in the world that has a completely natural colour. It is made using 130 different plants and the recipe is a secret still kept by two Chartreuse monks. The methodin which the liqueur is macerated in order to preserve the vibrant colour is also a closely guarded secret – as is the slow ageing process in wooden casks. The sales of Chartreuse fund the monks to this day.
To savour the flavour, consume cold or on the rocks as an after dinner digestif. The flavours are sweet, pungent and herbaceous. In some French ski resorts it’s served in steaming cups of hot chocolate and called “Green Chaud”. Green Chartreuse is vegan.
